BBC Radio & Music

Shaping the future of online radio

I spent a year within BBC’s Radio & Music department, developing concepts for iPlayer Radio v2.0, later absorbed into what is now BBC Sounds.

Together with designer Nick Ritchie, we undertook a meticulous and iterative design process, refining the user experience for radio listeners and producing rapid functional prototypes for focused user testing.

Content discovery

We reviewed the design of navigation and network homepages across the whole of the BBC’s audible offering, improving discoverability of radio content and encouraging onward journeys to other programmes. We also overhauled the search feature for BBC Radio, with smart autosuggest and rich media search results.

BBC Radioplayer

In November 2014 we launched the new pop-out Radioplayer for the BBC’s 17 national and 40 local stations.

The redesigned player was adaptive to content (including improved ‘Now Playing’ features for music programmes, related links for speech), with quick links to users’ favourites as well other BBC stations and schedules.
